Halloween

I dressed up for Halloween this year. Mostly because we do it for the clients at work, but then it ended up being such a comfortable costume that I just left it on for the rest of the day. And when the little ones arrived for candy, it was fun to see their big eyes looking up at me! We had only about 16 trick-or-treaters this year, surprising, but not surprising. The trend seems to be less, but we did get quite a few new, young families in the neighborhood this past summer, and that was the surprising part. After the porch lights were turned off, we had a glass of wine, and called it a night. I guess Halloween is fun, even without my own kids around.

Meanwhile, Back At The Ranch

While Bruce was working on the leaves up north today, I stayed home to get some things done around here. First task was to make some chili for supper in the slow cooker. I'm still trying to use up food in the house so I used the last of some pico de gallo in the fridge and some ground venison pork in the freezer. Three very ripe bananas found their way out of the fridge and into a loaf of banana oatmeal bread. Between the chili in the slow cooker and the banana bread baking in the oven, the house is smelling delicious! I think I might just venture down into the basement storage room (a scary thought) to look for more things to donate to charity, and I do need to run a couple errands in preparation for the Birthday Celebration later this week for Katie and Mom. I think the trickiest part of my day is Tristin, though. He's already been in timeout three times, naughty little boy cat.

Winding Up The Season

We decided to check on the cabin on our drive home from Duluth this week, and the colors were gorgeous. Bruce cast out a few lines and caught a nice sized bass! We're also thinking that the dock needs to be taken out soon, and that might be on the agenda for the weekend. Curt is probably going up to do the same, and he and Bruce can help each other out. I'm still hoping for a long fall, but they're talking about snow, maybe next week. Ugh.

Bed and Breakfast

We had a night in Duluth after Katie's art show, and stayed at a bed and breakfast. This was our third visit, and as before, it was really lovely and comfortable. They had all their Fall things out, and it was fun to snap a few pictures of the things that caught my eye. We ate At Sara's Table Tuesday night, which was wonderful. We split a beet salad, the steak entree, and a piece of raspberry peach pie. We were back at the Inn by nine, and decided to sip on some complementary wine while we watched an Austin Powers movie in bed. It felt so good to lay down after a long day of mostly standing, and after a good night's sleep, I took a nice soak in the deep tub with a cup of coffee. I told Bruce that a night out once a year at a bed and breakfast would be a very good thing indeed.
