Loving The Get Away's

Avi's Gonna Grill

I really do enjoy our Get Away's to Maryland.

When we're there, we don't watch the news or agonize too much about the Corona Virus. Well, maybe we agonize a little, but that's what the Virus does to people. Mostly we just spend our time doing all the normal living things that go with taking care of a little boy.

Aaron is getting so big! He's more like a little person these days instead of a baby ... on the verge of crawling, and trying so hard to talk. What a buttsa! He remembered his grandma and grandpa, too, and "settled in for good sits" on my lap, and was content to be carried around so he could watch his mama cook, or work on the deck garden.

The plants on the deck are loving the hot sun. Katie was able to harvest beets, cucumbers, tomatoes, tiny carrots, dill, basil (am I forgetting anything?).  She made hummus and a delicious beer bread breakfast for us, using the herbs and veggies harvested. So good. I wish that we had more sun in our yard at home so that plants could grow. I also wish that I knew how to keep plants alive!

We did a lot of cooking, baking, and eating. Katie wanted to make some of Grandma Joyce's recipes from the family Simple Supper cookbook ... peanut bars, mound bars, k bars, ranger cookies, plus we made a cherry poke cake. Avi made chicken and t-bone steaks on the charcoal grill. And, we talked about how good it feels to eat with family.

Speaking of families, there is a family of cardinals that hang out at the feeder on the deck. Harry is the dad (named after Grandpa Harry!), and it was cool to watch for them. The daddy cardinal seems to be the one to feed the babies, though the babies were almost as big as he was. We named the babies Eric and Don Jr. because they were so awkward and weird.

I felt pretty safe in Maryland. Everybody wears masks, and seems to have the social distancing thing down well. They've been doing this for a few months now, and it seems accepted. Minnesota just mandated everyone wear masks in public areas this last Saturday, and hopefully people adjust without too much complaining. I personally think it's a good thing to do, even though I'm not a big fan of wearing one myself. Onward.

Back to Minnesota life now, but hopefully we'll be able to see everyone again soon. Maybe in September? 💕💕💕
