Update

Spring is here! We now have new bird houses added to our yard, and we'd be delighted if bluebirds moved in! Of course, we'd settle for black capped chickadees, too, because who knows if the bluebirds I saw last year will even come back, or if they were only just passing through. It was the first time in my life that I'd seen bluebirds, and it might have been only a once in a lifetime kind of thing. We shall see. The new Bee Chair looks good by the desk at the cabin ... Jake has actually sat in it, and he says it works just fine. Mom finally let me wash and trim her hair. I trimmed my own hair! And this is something that has never happened before, either. Scary stuff. The Little Free Library has had some customers. I can tell because new books have been added. Bruce and I are taking our daily three mile walks, weather permitting, and have discovered five more little free librairies in the area. But, the biggest news of all, is that a trip to Maryland is in the works. I'm SO excited.

Better To Give Than To Receive

It was another exciting day in the house for us ... the Salvation Army took away our old green couch and upholstered chairs! It's tricky to find places that will. We'd listed them for free on Facebook Marketplace and Craigs List, and only received a couple of inquiries on them, and then the people didn't follow through. I had to search around online, and was happy to find that the Salvation Army would send out a truck to pick up donated furniture. We fixed a couple of torn areas, and vacuumed them really well. And when we were done, they looked nice, better than they had in a long time! I loved that couch and two chairs. And, of course, you always want them to go to a good home! I hope they end up in a good home. Good for us.

Saint Paddy's Day

Today is Saint Patrick's Day, and I'm making a corned beef and cabbage dinner in the slow cooker. The carrots and red potatoes are cooking along side the corned beef, but I'll roast the cabbage in the oven later because roasted cabbage is really delicious. And of course there will be lime green jello with mandarin oranges. This afternoon as I was doing my weekly vaccuming, I had a flashback of my mom vaccuming. It was a nice memory! And I remembered what a good mom she's been all these years. She must have had a routine, I know she vaccumed every week and she washed the bed sheets every week. She always made sure she cooked a hot meal for us every night, and of course she baked lots of ranger cookies, bars, and her famous apple pie. I have a memory of her taking us swimming most days in the summer when we lived in Illinois, and she made popcorn and koolaid for us when we got home. The neighborhood kids always seemed to know when, because there they were when it was ready to eat! My mom didn't seem to mind. I'm sure there were times when I felt like she was holding on to us too tightly, she was fiercely protective of the family. But, I always felt safe and loved in our home. My mom is a blessing.

The Chair

The Fabulous Bee Chair
Oh, we've had fun this week! We decided that we needed a chair to set in front of a desk (up at the lake), and stopped at a nearby Goodwill to see if they had anything. In the back of the store, we saw one that was (get this) only $2.99 ... Bruce said, well it's certainly the right price ... it had some scratches in the black paint, and the seat looked kind of tired, but we thought that with a little bit of effort, it might be just fine. So, we bought it and discovered that with using a (wow) black sharpie marker, we could cover up the imperfections! Today, we drove to Joann Fabrics, and found fun fabric (on sale) that Bruce could use to replace the tired cushion. I am so pleased. Our new chair is unique, and exactly the way I like to buy things, new to us, but also a repurposing of things that are already in the world.
