Surprise

Jessie surprised me this morning when she ate the breakfast I put out for her! Bruce had already gone out to run an errand, so I left her food out without making a big deal about it. I just let her be, and when Bruce returned, the food was gone.

This is huge! Will she eat for me tonight?

We've been trying to work on house things again, too. Bruce climbed up the ladder in the garage to pull everything down from the rafters that have been sitting up there forever. My old push mower was tucked up there, old friend! And we found the little bird house that used to hang in the tree in front of our house. Why it was ever taken down I don't know, but it's now back in the tree.

Later on this afternoon, we went looking for more perennials to plant along side the garage and found these gorgeous cone flowers at the Home Depot. There are still some hosta left that we can arrange along side them, and I think they will look really lovely.

Jake comes home on Monday!

Kind Of Tired

Jessie has decided that she won't eat for me. She will kiss me by licking my nose, but when I start to get her food ready, she runs into the living room or up the stairs, looking for Bruce. She will usually eat for Bruce eventually, but not me. It's wearing me out! What's going to happen when Bruce goes on his week long fishing trip?

Birthday

I had a great birthday. It's fun to have people remember, and wish me a happy birthday, but as time passes, I realize how dear it is to even just have all these people in my life. That in itself is a gift!

I was able to do some of my favorite things this week. I had lunches with a couple of my closest friends. I was able to listen to Bruce (and, Curt) sing at open mic night. We had tacos at the Red Rooster, and they were only 75 cents a piece! They sang Happy Birthday to me at work, well mostly Mona sang. The other folks mostly ate their morning toast, but that's what they do.  And even though I didn't get to spend time in person with my three kids, they did message me sweet messages.

What A Time To Be Visiting China

Jake has now been in China for almost two weeks. He posted these photos on Facebook, and of course I had to borrow them. What an awesome experience for him!

Then we heard about the massive explosion that took place in Tianjin, the city where they were to travel to as part of their study of the Eco-City. I looked back over our messaging and saw that they were scheduled to go to Tianjin Thursday morning, so they supposedly were't there yet, but I couldn't relax until Jake actually wrote back saying that they were okay.

I'm not sure how much news coverage the people there have been allowed to see. Following news coverage in the U.S. has been wild, at least 50 confirmed dead and hundreds more injured or missing. The most recent concern has been the impact on the quality of air in the area as the explosion was in a place storing hazardous chemical materials.

This reminded me of when Katie first went to Seoul for her student teaching, and we heard about the Ferry full of students sinking. Her school was not involved, but until we heard that from her, we had some scary thoughts.

What's a momma to do?

I will be glad when he comes home, safe and sound.
