Red Rooster

We went on a date to the Red Rooster tonight ... we've never been there before, but I read some good reviews about it in a local paper some time back. It felt like a little hole in the wall type place, which is exactly the type of place I like to be in.
Bruce offered to take my picture! (Yes!)
I ordered the Stack Burger. It was much prettier before I ate half of it and I probably should have taken the picture before I started eating, but what can you do about that? It was delicious! Stacked with cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, mushrooms, sprouts, and Thousand Island dressing. I definitely want to go back there again.

Parade

Grandma Gloria was crowned Queen of Meridian Manor, and one of her official duties was to ride in a parade. The rain surprisingly stopped just as the parade began, the heat wasn't too extreme, and lots of candy was tossed to the kids. One of my favorite things to see was a group of old guys playing in a steel drum band! All in all, I'd say the parade was a smashing success.

Big Birthday

Jacob turned eighteen this week, and we celebrated his Golden Birthday at Kobe. Where has all the time gone? I remember when he was little, and he would sit on my lap while we watched Mister Roger's Neighborhood. I called it "settling in for a good sit". Now that he's almost 6' 4", that would never work!

July Birthdays

I can't believe it's the middle of July already, but it must be because it was time to celebrate Jake and Mark's birthdays ...
We ate off my Great Grandma Johnson's china ...
I think that made Mom happy.
We did have some wine ...
I made some Chicken Divan and new potatoes, Grandma Joyce brought the family Cherry Pie jello.
Jake and Kate did the dishes. Good children. :-)
Grandma Joyce gave Mark and Jake boxes of macaroni and cheese. (They got other stuff, too.)
Always time for pictures ...

Next Birthday Celebration ... August.

Evening Fishing

We've been spending our Saturday evenings fishing at the cabin. It's so peaceful up there, almost like a little slice of Heaven. I don't know what's more beautiful, the water or the sky ...

Cool Down

I don't know if temps dropping down into the 80's counts as a cool down, but it sure feels good. It's hard on a body to have to deal with extreme heat for extended periods of time, even if there is a little air conditioning to be had. I think that people have even been driving a little weird this past week! Last night, some cooling rains moved through the area, and I was able to open up some windows to let the fresh air in. Nice.

Quiet Holiday

It's been a quiet day around here, a day of puttering around and doing whatever needed to be done. And since it's been so steamy hot, we haven't been staying outside for very long at a time. I did move some things around in the yard, though, a couple of bird baths. My strategy was to move them about a foot, then set them down to rest, then move them another foot. They look nice in the gardens. All we need is some rain to fill them up!
The raspberries were ripe, so we picked some and ate them with vanilla yogurt. With the cicadas singing and the hot breezes blowing, it definitely felt like summer.
I worked some more on the dining room, of course, and I'm pleased to report that I made a dent in it. We popped some Aldis Supreme pizzas in the oven and had them with some Trader Joe's sushi for supper.
And I finally got around to making some homemade granola in my crockpot. I'll post the recipe another day. We won't go to see fireworks tonight, though. It's just too hot outside. Plus, Bruce and I both need to work in the morning. I think all in all, it's been a pretty fine fourth of July.
