New House

Katie and her little family moved into their new house in the country! It's only about 35 minutes away from us, so it'll be easy to see them and help out as needed. Little boy seems to be adjusting, and is sleeping well in his new room. The neighbors next to them have horses, and there's even a chicken coop already there, but I don't think they'll be adding chickens to it just yet. Our house is so quiet now that they've left, it's going to take some time to get used to that. But, I am so happy for them!

October Book Club

The Brown Eyed Book Club Beauties met for breakfast at the American Legion last week. It was an interesting journey getting there, too, because of all the road work everywhere. And then we had to wait for a table. But, I love the American Legion. It's budget friendly, for sure, and it also has a down to earth kind of feel, not fancy or pretentious at all. I tried a Bloody Mary since I'd never had one before ... it was kind of spicy and I'm not sure I liked it enough to order again. I suggested that we read The Color Purple before our next meeting, and everyone was agreeable. They asked how I had come up with that book, and I said that I'd found a copy at a Little Free Library! Our next meeting will be in early December, at Mono's condo. We're going to do fondue.

Mom Turns 88

We had a houseful today at Mom's birthday lunch. Everyone made it over, so there were ten of us plus little boy. I asked Mom what her favorite foods to eat were, and she said sweets! She couldn't come up with much more other than potato chips, so knowing that she likes hot dogs, I decided to serve corn dogs. Plus cinnamon applesauce jello, cole slaw, Caesar salad, calico beans in the crockpot, potato chips, and cherry fudge chunk ice cream pie. Katie made pumpkin cookies, and Diana brought frosted Halloween cookies. Little boy, who loves a good party, ran up and down the kitchen saying, "oh, my goodness", his new favorite phrase. Mom got plenty of sweets to bring home ... cookies from Nick, popcorn from Jake and Brianna, and chocolates from Mark. Diana gave Mom some soft socks, and we gave her a stuffed puppy that looks very much like Maxie Poo. He can lay on her bed with Ranger! I sat up close to Mom on the couch (we stayed warm that way), and read over all her Facebook Birthday greetings. It was a very nice afternoon.
