Stretch

Well, my poor little Beetle had a slow leaky tire, and needed to have air put in every couple of days or so. I tried to alternate between asking Bruce and Jake to help me put it in, but after awhile I started to feel guilty about asking. This went on for, oh, pretty much all summer. Plus every couple days when the tire was low, the indicator light and alarm would go off and practically scare the pants off of me when I was driving. I don't know why I just didn't bring it in to be serviced right away, that part is a mystery to me. Debbie, my inspiration in life, said it's so easy to put air in! You can do it! So, I watched Jake a bit closer and one day I tried myself. Oh, brother. What a piece of cake. I feel ridiculous now in my fear of doing it. Then, Bruce talked me into bringing it in to a local tire place and they repaired the tire for free. Free. Bruce said places do this sort of thing as a good will gesture, hoping people will bring their cars in to buy new tires in the future ... works for me! As for putting air into the tires, I'm pleased with myself for finally learning a new skill. Sometimes we need to stretch ourselves a bit.

State Fair 2012

Debbie and I went to the State Fair over the weekend. It's become a tradition. Years ago, we would drive there and park in the lot, but these days it's easier to do the park and ride thing. This year we went in the evening. Some of the displays were starting to wind down for the night, so we only went into a few buildings, and spent most of our time relaxing on benches and people watching. We made sure to get some ice cream from the dairy building, though, and visit the poultry building.

Banana Icebox Cake Update

The banana icebox cake turned out yummy, and it was so easy to put together.
Just a few ingredients are needed.
You basically whip the cream, sweeten it to taste, and layer cookies, cream, and banana slices.
There will be a couple layers ...
When you're done putting it together, put it in the "icebox" to chill overnight.
Beautiful!

Banana Icebox Cake

I'm thinking about making a banana icebox cake as part of my upcoming birthday celebration. People have said, you make your own birthday cake? How sad! I might have agreed with this in the past, but these days I'm into focusing on the positive side, and I like the idea of being able to give something, too. The recipe I found looks easy, only three ingredients. Vanilla wafer cookies, sliced bananas, and lightly sweetened whipping cream. You put it together the night before to chill in the fridge, and it turns magically into cake overnight. Sounds like my kind of dessert! I'll let you know how it all turns out.

Just A Thought

I saw this on Facebook yesterday and I've been thinking about how true it is. I decided not to post it on my wall, though, because my intentions were not to pass judgement on the kids growing up these days; I love my children and I feel that the world we are living in these days presents different challenges for them to overcome. However ... if anyone wants to read this with an open mind, they might find it to have some ideas worth considering. I think some of these suggestions can lead to more personal contentment in the end.

Monday

It's Monday, and so far so good. I had a dental appointment after work today, and was told that my mouth is clean and my gums are pink, which is a good thing. It was especially quiet in the dental office today, with no music playing, and the gal who cleans my teeth is quite gentle. So, I almost fell asleep. I then did my work out at Curves, threw in a load of wash, filled out some back to school paperwork (as the BIG EVENT is tomorrow, you know the return of the paperwork, pictures to be taken, etc ...) and cleaned a bathroom. I put some chicken legs on the grill, but then the gas ran out and I had to move the pans into the oven. (I was hoping to avoid that as it's in the upper 80's today, but what can you do?) I think I will start reading a new book tonight, too. I've decided to read more this summer, and although I'm not quite ready to commit to reading a book a week, I like the idea and it might end of being a goal. I read the first of a new series (to me) by Phillipa Gregory, Wildeacre, last week. Next will be The Favored Child. Oh, and Kates just called ... she's coming home tonight for a visit! Mondays aren't so bad after all. :-)
