February Book Club

The Brown Eyed Book Club Beauties met here this past Sunday. As I mentioned before, we didn't have a book picked out for this meeting, but we did choose one for the next time we get together, Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. Figuring out the best way to get the book can be tricky, though. We try to borrow books from the library if possible because nobody is all that interested in acquiring another book that just takes up more space in the house. (A little free library book would be amazing, though) I searched online at the library, and found that there were wait lists for everything they had, and ended up reserving an audio CD book to listen to. (I'm not really sure why, maybe I panicked. 😂) I then thought that I could probably listen to it while I knit something, which made me feel better. Netflix also has the movie streaming, so that would be an additional option that could add to our discussion of the book.

Today I went to Barnes and Noble to look for a preschool age book on becoming a big brother (April is coming fast!) and the first table I walked by had Where The Crawdads Sing just sitting there. I looked, walked away, then walked back and picked one up! And ended up buying it, along with a book on becoming a big brother. I discovered that my Barnes and Noble membership number was still good, too, so I ended up getting a 10% discount!

Our food was delicious. I made an egg dish with tots on the bottom, Mona brought candied bacon palmiers (google it) and fruit, Kat brought some "savory bites", and Cathy brought Poke Cake! We also had mimosas and hot peppermint tea.

Our next meeting will be in March at Mona's.

Punk

We said goodbye to Punk this week.

Grandma Gloria named her Pumpkin, and when a move was made to memory care, Pumpkin moved in with us, along with Cleo. It became obvious that Pumpkin was really more of a Punk, so that's who she became. She was a feisty cat at that time, and her bright green eyes would almost turn black when she got mad. And, you'd better watch your step when she got mad! 😂 We often said that Cleo was the brains of the operation, but Punk was the thug, and she'd walk into the room with a thug attitude. She sometimes became the butt of our jokes ... Problematic Punk, Pissy Punk, Beat It Punk, or No One Invited You To The Party Punk ... 😂 Of course, these things were said jokingly.

I don't know why she was so crazy then, but after living here for awhile, she really mellowed out. She became an exceptionally good lap cat, and loved to sleep on Mom's lap when Mom came over to visit.

Other things that Punk loved ... sweets, sleeping in the sun, laying in front of the fireplace on a cold morning, eating leaves on the porch and then throwing up, her morning dish of milk. She was a very curious cat, too, and had to be in the middle of everything that was happening. Her fur was super soft.

Poor little girl was 19 years old, and though her eyes could still be bright green and alert at times, life was getting harder for her. It was time to say goodbye. Do animals have souls? It's hard for me to think that a life source could just disappear permanently, so I'm thinking that maybe Punk has been reunited with Grandma Gloria and Cleo. I hope so, anyway.

Here's To Punk

Suddenly, the house is quiet. And it's funny that you can't always see the cause of the noise until it's quiet. She was tiny, but Punk had a big personality. We miss her already. 😞

Wordless Wednesday

Never knew it would be so much fun to sing!
