Change

Things are changing. Our oldest son is moving out this weekend, it's time to start a new chapter in his life and try to make it on his own. Our youngest son will be away at college this fall and our daughter is also away at college. We joke, or maybe not joke, that we need to practice empty nest. Someone else I know was wondering about good books to read about the subject. I don't know of any, but I'm thinking that maybe we just need to do more things together. Maybe a movie tonight.

Wristlet Corsage

So, here is my first attempt at making a wristlet corsage. I only burned myself once with the hot glue gun, so that's something. It also looks kind of big in the picture, but I was trying to show as much detail as I could. When you hold the flower up to your arm and look in the mirror, it looks more proportional. And now I need to figure out how to attach the flower to the bracelet...

French Toast and New Sneakers

Jake made us some French Toast this morning, just because. And then did the dishes.

Jake also made the decision to attend St. Olaf College this fall! We tried not to influence him on where he should go, but I will say that I am delighted that he chose St. Olaf. It's an excellent school, far enough away for him to have his own life but close enough to drive home for visits. Um! Yah! Yah!

In the afternoon, Bruce and I did a little shopping. I needed some new walking shoes and these were a spunky blue, plus they were 30 percent off. I love them!

Spring Is Here

Spring is officially here, but it doesn't exactly feel like it. Lots of snow, lots of cold, lots of bitter wind. The one redeeming thing is that we have sun. And if there is sun, it's tolerable. Last year was more of a fluke in that we were having temps in the 70's. Oh, well. This is Minnesota, after all.

Bread

The little round loaf is some Irish Soda bread I picked up at Cub Foods. It was surprisingly tasty, quite sweet actually. The loaf next to it is a simple white bread I made in my bread maker. There is something so wonderful about homemade bread, even if it's made in a bread maker. We had these to eat on St. Paddy's Day, along with our corned beef and cabbage dinner.

Weekend Update

Last week was not a good one, at all. I was glad when the weekend finally arrived, but through yesterday it didn't seem like it was going to improve much. For one thing, it started to rain. It rained all Friday night and by Saturday noon, the basement was flooded. We did our usual routine, something that we need to do at least yearly. Pull up the carpet, pull out the fans, and attempt to vacuum out the water every 15 minutes or so until it slows down. And then talk about having the basement waterproofed and wonder if we will actually follow through with it this year. It's been gloomy with the rain, and today the winds picked up and it was cold! Anyway, I did wake up feeling pretty good this morning despite everything. No aches and pains, and felt rested. With all the extra energy, we decided to run errands ... Target, Michael's, and Trader Joe's. I've been watching videos on YouTube, trying to learn how to make wristlet corsages, and dreaming about artificial flowers. We then picked up some photo storage boxes, hoping to maybe get more organized. The grand finale was making some Vegetable Won Ton Soup for supper. When the soup was done, it still needed something and I added some Trader Joe's Island Soyaki Sauce.

Home Again

Jake made it home from his trip to LA last night, and the orchestra did wonderfully! They won Gold at the Music Festival, and Jake received the Maestro Award, a recognition given to students who perform at the highest level. This is kind of a big deal because there were over 600 kids performing, and only 10 received this award. I guess the trip was fun, but they looked tired upon return, and then still had to attend a full day of school today. Jake lost his tennis shoes at some point during the trip and had to wear his black dress shoes while they were at Disneyland, but I think that was probably the worst thing that happened.
