Memorial Service

I wonder how many people still use telephone booths

Who is this guy???

Phillip Brunelle

Just A Closer Walk With Thee

The food was excellent!

The A Cappella Yale Whiffenpoofs

Bruce's stepbrother, Jack, passed away recently and Bruce was asked to sing "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" at his memorial service. It was held at the Minneapolis Club, which was in a beautiful old building downtown. It had such an elegant feel to it, and I enjoyed walking around and exploring while Bruce practiced a bit before the service. Jack and his family have been politically active, so it wasn't surprising when Senator Amy Klobuchar walked in. There was also a spur of the moment performance by the A Cappella Yale Whiffenpoofs, Yale being Jack's alma mater. Philip Brunelle, globally recognized and founder of Vocal Essence, performed on the piano. I didn't catch the name of the other singer in the service, but he did talk about performing with Garrison Keillor on Prairie Home Companion. All of which made for a very interesting evening! I do have to say, though, that I thought Bruce's "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" was the most touching of all the music. After we started the drive home, I looked up and saw the Foshay Building, and had a memory of Mom telling me that the Foshay was the tallest building in Minneapolis when she first moved here with her sisters in the 1950's.

Sisters Weekend

After a long Minnesota winter (and a cold Minnesota spring), it was finally time for another Sisters Weekend with Debbie and Gwen. Debbie graciously offered for them to drive over here and retrieve me for our get together. (Because of new bridge construction work going on, and the fact that my car has a tire that leaks air that has yet to be repaired.) I decided to accept her offer, and ended up feeling quite pampered. Gwen, however, had to brave the roads coming down towards the city. We decided that busy roads are getting less and less appealing.

Olive Garden Lasagna, our new tradition

Oh, Gunner

We picked up a lasagna dinner from Olive Garden on the way back to Debbie's house, and the little gal who brought our food to the car was so adorable and so cute, that we decided she could possibly be an angel on earth. Seriously, she sparkled when she smiled. I wish I could have taken her picture, but then that probably would have been crossing some sort of boundary line. 😂

Could my orchid ever look like this???

We binge watched some new to us shows on Netflix, mostly Jewish Matchmaking and Indian Matchmaker! It was great, lots of energy and fun compared to all the Sister Wives episodes we usually watch. Change can be good.

Yum

Debbie made egg dish and glazed lemon bread for breakfast, so good.

And, I think that Debbie must be some kind of plant whisperer because, well, look at her plants. After they drove me home, my orchid ended up going back with them. To the Debbie Hospital. It's in good hands now.

Baby Stellan Is Baptized

We were finally able to meet Courtney and Prahbu's baby, Stellan, on Mother's Day when he was baptized. Stellan's grandfather is a Deacon at the church, and performed the baptism. Their congregation is that of the Pax Christi Community, and reading up on the name now, I see that it means an international Catholic peace movement. Its vision is for a world where people can live in peace, free from the fear of violence in any form, and has core values of peace, non-violence, and reconciliation. Nice.

Sherry's new motorized wheelchair

So handsome 💕

It was fun to see all the little ones so interested in what was going on. After the baptism, they had pizza and cake, plus juice boxes and little cutie tangerines. Courtney had hired a photographer, and we were able to have a couple of family pictures taken. Sherry was there with one of her caregivers, Andrew, and was in her new motorized wheel chair. We all agreed that it was a very nice way to celebrate Mother's Day.
