Lake Harriet

Bruce and I finally took our walk around Lake Harriet. Once again, the summer has been so crazy that this was the first time we were able to. The weather was perfect. We bumped into my friend, Mary, from Curves, who was in line for food at the Bread and Pickle. The line was so long that we decided to eat at a little Mexican restaurant on the way home instead. The food was just so-so, but the ice cold diet Pepsi was delicious.

Another Proud Momma Moment

Last Thursday, we drove to St. Olaf to see Jake's presentation for his summer research project. They had created a video for us to watch, and at first I didn't recognize that it was Jake who was narrating. All of a sudden I did, and it literally gave me chills because his voice was so beautiful and professional!

They served egg rolls and cookies afterwards, and we had a chance to chat with Jake's roommate, Nick. I love these proud momma moments. 💕

Girls Get Away

The three of us decided to have an overnight at the cabin this past weekend. The leaves were starting to turn, and the air had a definite feel of fall to it. We thought we might try to eat at The Joint (used to be called Players), but when we peeked in, there were no tables open, and we decided that we really just wanted to snuggle in all cozy at the cabin. We ended up eating smoked cheese and crackers for our supper and then finished it up by roasting marshmallows in the fireplace. We put three rocking chairs in front of the fire, and talked late into the night.

Gwen's mom knitted some slippers for Debbie and me. We couldn't decide who got what color, so we just split them up.

It's good to have a girls get away once in awhile.

Anticipation

Well, I'm off soon for a girls get away with Debbie and Gwen. The  car is gassed up, snacks have been purchased, and bling ring is on! We don't do this very often and I'm now wondering why. Pictures to follow ...

Surprise!

Katie drove home last night after work, and got here about ten. We could only talk for a little while because I had to get up and go to work this morning. I also had a dental appointment in the afternoon, which cut into our visit even more. Bruce ended up driving home from his fishing trip a couple of days early, and was surprised to find Katie here! And, then Katie made us supper, Italian pasta with pesto. My momma heart was so happy! I told her that the house comes alive when she's at home. I love it when my kids come home.

Moving On With The Week

Just me and the animals hanging out this week while Bruce is on his fishing trip. I've been keeping pretty busy, meeting with friends for lunch and visiting with Mom and Dad yesterday. Today I had to push myself to be productive, but in the end felt pretty good with what I accomplished … our bedroom and bathroom needed some attention, and I also ended up hanging a new painting on the wall, one that Katie made years ago. I love it!

Birthday Lunch with Debbie

Debbie took me out to lunch for my birthday today. We went to the Lakeshore Grill at Macys, and had some very tasty food..  I ordered the chicken cashew stir fry with brown rice and Debbie had the glazed salmon with risotto. We split some banana creme brûlée, too.

We gave Gwen a call while we were there and made a decision that we'd all meet for a girl's night at the cabin in the next week or so. Then we did a little window shopping and found a ring on sale that had a special message … it was then that I carried you … We dodged the aggressive people at the cosmetics counters, and decided that we didn't need to spend $578 dollars for a yellow blazer, even though it had a cool name brand!

Wordless Wednesday

Fancy Supper

We decided to have supper on the porch last night, thinking that we might not have many more days this year that we could do that. I made some turkey meatloaf and we dined by candle light. Sure enough this morning, we woke to cold and rain.

Bruce leaves for his annual male bonding fishing trip up north soon, and the forecast is for snow! Up there anyway, not here, I'm still hoping for a long, mild fall. And I'd still like to have a fire in the fire pit at least once. I can't believe the summer is over and we haven't had one yet. What's up with this summer?

Sunday Mornings at the Cabin

Mornings are peaceful at the cabin. It's usually pretty quiet unless it's a holiday weekend, and even more quiet now that Jessie can't hear as well and doesn't bark at every little sound outside the window. We drink our coffee and eat English muffins with peanut butter and jam. Bruce plays guitar and sings. Sometimes we do a little fishing. We've kind of settled into a routine and it's comfortable.

Friday Afternoon

Fall is here, kids are gone, and it's time for a Friday afternoon with a friend! Renee came over today and we attempted to make mojitos, which actually turned out quite tasty. She also made a delicious mexican layer dip for us. Where has the summer gone, and why haven't we done this already? I'm thinking we need to do this more often!

More Italian Wonderpot

I'm sorry that Jake didn't get any Italian Wonderpot this summer while he was home, but last night just seemed like a good night to make some. This time I actually followed the directions and added everything to the pot at once instead of sautéing the onions are garlic first. I was concerned before that they wouldn't be cooked through, but that was not the case. The onion and garlic were tender and the whole pot turned out delicious! We added some Italian style turkey meatballs and had a wonderful supper.

Gone Again

We brought Jake back to St. Olaf yesterday. I will miss him, but I'm also truly happy that he can be there. We were able to enjoy the beautiful grounds on the campus, and spent time talking to to his friends and other parents. It was a good day. Now back to our empty house!
