Misty Memorial Weekend

Lots of rain going on this weekend, plus beautiful stormy looking skies. I hung the flag outside yesterday while the sun was out, but then the rains came during the night, and I felt kind of guilty because it was still out.

When I was little, Dad told me that it was wrong to have the flag out during rain, and since I am pretty much a rule follower all the time, I have tried to follow his advice. Today, though, I did some research and found that it's okay to leave All Weather Flags out in the rain, and since most modern flags are All Weather Flags, the rule no longer applies. Phew. I feel better now.

We also have friends coming over later this afternoon for appetizers and cards (they're going to teach us 500), which should be fun! More about that later.

Sweet Days

Mornings can be nice times to visit Mom.

I know it can be lonely for her now that Dad has passed, but I think she's trying to find her way as best she can. I'm glad when I hear her talking about friends she visits or talks to on the phone, and she loves having Patches there with her.

I hope she can stay settled in, safe, and secure there for as long as she can.

Yesterday we worked on another puzzle, and then we went to an outside patio to watch as a dozen butterflies were released into the sky. So pretty! And as soon as this rain and gloomy weather goes away, I'm hoping we can spend some time sitting on the front porch swing, maybe take a trip to Dairy Queen.

It's hard to watch parents age.

Update

Robinsons Bay Beach

just a cute dog at Robinsons Bay Beach

Is it Spring yet???

At least the sun is shining today. We had another cold, wet, dreary weekend and, my gosh, it was miserable! We basically stayed inside the whole time, and tried to keep busy without going crazy. We did finish a 750 piece puzzle of cats, which was a challenge, and then there was laundry to do, and cookbooks to browse, and bean soup to make. It was okay, but I really do prefer the sun and warm weather. I even had to bring my plants into the garage last night because of frost warnings. It's the middle of May, people!

Last week brought craft night (and kabobs by Terry and Lee on their Big Green Egg), which has now morphed into game night with Phase 10. There was also book club here last Friday, which has morphed into social club. I think the only mention of the book was that maybe we should continue it into next time as not everyone (but I did 😏) actually read it ... the food was good, though.

The hummingbirds have found the feeders, even in the cold rain. They seem to prefer one feeder over the other and only one bird seems to visit at a time. But it would be fun to see a bunch of them come all at once, like we saw at another friend's house last summer. We'll see if that happens.

Punk is so much better. No more potty on the rugs, and no obvious blood in the potty. She's accepting the wet food, and I've also starting giving her (and Tristin) Iams Urinary Tract Support kibble, which is supposed to keep things acidic and less prone to bladder stones. They like it at least, which is really the best you can do with cats.

And hopefully the sun stays out for awhile so there can be more things like walks to the lake, and pork chops on the grill.

Gig

Bruce had a Singer Songwriter's Gig last Saturday in Stillwater. For the last couple of months, people were given prompts that they then used for writing their music, and this was an opportunity to perform a few of their creations on stage. It was a good group of people, and a fun afternoon to hang out at. Bruce has now almost met his personal goal of writing 30 songs in the past year ... I'm very proud of him!

Mother's Day 2019

I had a nice Mother's Day.

Nick came home for the weekend, and Katie and Avi surprised me by sending a wicker, heart shaped picnic basket. Jake sent me a message that he loved me, so I heard from all my babies. 💕

Bruce and I decided to buy ourselves a couple of blue adirondack chairs that we can sit on in front of the lake up at the cabin ... one for me for Mother's Day, and one for him for Father's Day ... Bruce also gave me some purple tulips. I love purple tulips.

The grill actually cooperated with me this year. It's an old gas grill, and kind of does it's own thing at times. However, it fired up and stayed hot, and we were able to have delicious No Name Steaks. Our menu this year was No Name Steaks, calico cat beans, cherry cinnamon applesauce jello (well, raspberry cinnamon applesauce jello because that's what I had in the house), potato and macaroni salads that I did not personally make 😀, potato chips, and mint chip ice cream for dessert. We used Mom's china this time.

Grandma Joyce posed for the camera with all of her presents ...

Even the cats showered me with love. As I came down the stairs early in the morning, they were all on the stairs, too, and their eyes looked like they were saying I love you ... well, maybe they were actually more interested in being fed, but I'm going to believe it was an I love you.
