Wedding

The daughter of a fishing buddy of Bruce's got married over the weekend, and we were invited to attend. It's fun to go to a wedding. It's fun to dress up, eat some tasty food, drink a little wine, and watch the entertainment on the dance floor. Curt and Teri were there, too, so we had friends to sit with.

It was a cold night (of course it was cold) around zero degrees, and requested attire was a cocktail dress. I did have a dress in mind to wear, but thought it way too frigid to go bare legged. And although it's fallen out of favor, I decided to wear nylons. Once upon a time, people wore nylons all the time. I don't remember nylons being that uncomfortable to wear, but they are uncomfortable to wear, and being uncomfortable is a distraction. I've now decided that I don't think I'll ever wear nylons again. Maybe boots would have been a good idea. The wedding was in a barn, after all!

Maybe if I'd been more comfortable, I'd have suggested that we dance. 😂 The first songs the DJ played were from the 70's and 80's, which was delightful! Then they morphed into more current tunes that we didn't know. Too late! It was fun to see the little flower girl on the dance floor, although I worried she might get stepped on by the others (she didn't). She took a couple of tumbles, but got right back up to run around some more.

We even wore complimentary colors. I asked Teri if she'd take a picture of us, and a couple of them turned out pretty nice. Sometimes people complain about having photos taken of them, but I think that one day, those photos will be appreciated. 💕

Friday The 13th

We drove up to the lake for the night to get a couple of things done. We ended up buying a TV to mount over the fireplace, and we were excited to see how it would work. It was already Roku enabled, and we had put our passwords for Netflix and Discovery Plus in before we even left home, so we were all set. Bruce created a base for the TV stand to sit securely on the mantle, and the glory of this is, that we didn't have to mount it into the stone of the fireplace. If we change our minds later and decide to take the TV down, no permanent damage will have been done.

I found a streaming CBS Minnesota News station, and even though it might not be the exact 5 PM local news we'd see at home, it was very close, and it was comforting to watch. Our Mint Mobile hotspots seem to work well up at the lake, too. We then put a Big Bang Theory DVD in afterwards while we worked on another project.

Which was replacing the paper liner under the top bunk bed mattresses that had been torn off in places over the years. We bought an inexpensive flat bed sheet at Target to staple over the ripped paper, and it worked out well!

I have to say, that we were almost giddy when we turned on the TV. All of a sudden, the cabin came alive! (We ended up deciding that we watched way too much TV that night.) In addition to the Big Bang Theory, we watched a movie, The Sixth Sense. Having the TV on the whole time while we're up there, though, will not be the norm, says Me.

Bruce made us pancakes for breakfast the next morning, and we were home by mid afternoon, just in time to visit Katie and little boy. Tristin had been busy in the kitchen while we were away, and here's Minnie Mouse checking out the situation...

You might be wondering what Friday the 13th had to do with this writing. It's true that we were up there on Friday the 13th, though nothing really seemed amiss while we were there. A few days after we got home, though, a cabin neighbor sent us a note telling us about a woman's body that had been found somewhere around our lake on that day. Luckily they didn't think there was any foul play involved!

January Brown Eyed Book Club Beauties

Back together again, how long has it been since our last meeting? And, will we ever read a book again? 😂 Can we still call ourselves The Brown Eyed Book Club Beauties if we don't?

It probably doesn't matter if we don't. I'm now in the routine of reading at least 45 minutes before I go to sleep, so that's what counts. I try not to buy more books to bring into the house, but I did end up ordering the rest of the Outlander series from Thriftbooks because I found that I loved reading them, and I can see myself re-reading them. They're LONG books, and if I borrow them from the library, 3 weeks is not near enough time to finish.

We met for brunch at Mona's condo. She made Dutch Baby Pancakes with strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream. Kat brought olive bread and Girl Scout mint cookies. I brought bacon and chocolate chip cookies, and Cathy brought deviled eggs and harvest bread. Of course, there was wine. Yum, yum.

This time we talked for 5 hours! Next get together will be here in mid February ...

Winter Wonderland

I'm really not minding this winter. The cold has brought with it bright blue skies and sparkly snow coated trees, and the beauty of it all is just so good for a positive frame of mind. Will it stay this way for the duration of this winter? I doubt it, but it's sure helping to shorten the dead of winter blues!

Hi, Dad

And there they are
