Halloween 2015

We had a grand total of 16 trick-or-treaters tonight! Maybe that's pretty good for our neighborhood. We don't have sidewalks, and I think that slows people down some, too.

Bruce picked up some Chipotle and wine, so we had a relaxing supper while waiting for the doorbell to ring. They were all so cute, but I think my favorite was a boy with a big horse head.

Late October

Just a few last photos of the glorious Fall we've been having here in Minnesota. They said the colors were going to be intense, and they were right. Too bad the rain and cold winds arrived this week, though. Most of the leaves got blown down, and it's feeling like winter will be upon us soon, dang it!

Anyway, Halloween is this weekend and the candy has been bought. We have both Snickers and MilkyWay bars, plus spooky shaped fruit snacks. Today, I counted seven little boys playing in their yards on Hummingbird Lane alone, so I think we should be covered.

Now to figure out my costume for the client party at work tomorrow ...

Mom's Birthday

Today was Mom's birthday, so we drove out to celebrate, food packed in cooler and crock pot.

We ate so much! We had rotisserie chicken from Cub (the best), Italian pasta salad, Judy's Overnight Lettuce Salad, calico beans, sourdough bread, and potato chips. And a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, because it wouldn't be a proper birthday party without one.

And, Mom now has her own adult coloring book. I guess that makes her cool, because everyone's talking about getting one of their own.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Dock's Out

I cannot believe the weather we are having! Over 70 degrees today and it's the middle of October!

Bruce and Curt took the docks out this past weekend, which is kind of a big job. I admire them for knowing how to dismantle the things and I admire them for going into the cold water to do it. Too bad that the lake season is coming to a close, but I'm sure we'll try to get up a time or two during the winter months. Katie said she and Avi are planning on coming for a visit over Christmas, and I'm thinking she might want to show him the cabin. I wonder what he will think of our Minnesota weather then ...

Jessie does really well when we are up there. She eats right away, and sleeps well at night. She also loves to sniff around for chipmunks, and hang out on the dock watching Bruce fish. She still uses the little carpeted steps to get into the car, sweet old girl.

We tried out a new place to eat, the Twin Pines. It was wonderful! It had broasted chicken and a salad bar, two of my favorites. I asked the little gal serving us what kind of red wine they had, and she said Merlot. I also had to take a picture of the sweet table cloth. We will be returning to eat there again!

Sunday Morning Walk In October

We decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather today, and drove to South Minneapolis to walk around Lake Harriet. Even now as I write, the temps have reached close to 80 degrees and it's almost the middle of October! We parked the car, and then I noticed the Rose Garden. Of all the times we've walked around Lake Harriet, and even years ago when we lived just a few blocks away from Lake Harriet, we've never taken the time to look at the Rose Garden! Were we always in such a hurry to get around the Lake and go home? I decided that we needed to go right then, before we started walking around the Lake because I just knew that it wouldn't happen unless we did.

And the roses were still in bloom, even this late in the season. One of the fountains was still going, and the one that wasn't reminded me of something that I might see in the movie, Rosemary's Baby. There were others like me who were taking pictures of the roses and fountains with their iPhones, and it felt welcoming and kind of sweet. How could have I missed seeing such treasures before?

After the Rose Garden and after the walk around the Lake, we headed home for a tuna salad sandwich with bread and butter pickles, which was quite wonderful. Life is good.

Time for Pumpkins

While Bruce finished up painting the cabin this weekend, I worked on making corsages with supplies I brought with in a big plastic bin!

Leaves are changing colors, and for the first time in my life, I've figured out that the leaves on oak trees turn yellow, and the leaves on maples turn red. Not sure why it's taken me so long to notice, but I'm finding this to be true in other areas in my life, too.  Hmmm. I like it.

And, the Pumpkin is now out on the front step, so decorating for fall is complete.

Little Bohemian Heart

Well, my Etsy shop is finally open! The thought to open a shop has been on my mind for a good two years, trying to build up the courage to actually do it has been my biggest reason for the wait.

You see, I'm not a business person. I'm a nurse who takes care of people with dementia.

But, I do like to create pretty things ...

When my boys were in high school and needed to buy a corsage for the dance, I ended up being the one to pick them out. And they were okay, but kind of expensive. Occasionally one would start to fall apart before they even left for the dance.

I started to wonder ...

Forever flowers, unique in a Bohemian sort of way.

Anyway, what kind of a shop owner would I be without trying to promote my shop?  :-)

And, I was also delighted to discover that my little postal scale still worked, even though I had to wrap a few rubber bands around the top.

Now, to wait.
