Mom Turns 90

Mom had a milestone birthday yesterday when she turned 90!

We recently returned from a trip to Salt Lake City (more about that later), and there wasn't a solid plan yet about how we'd celebrate. And, tricky, tricky with everyone's work and travel schedules! We decided to just surprise Mom after lunch (and before Tuesday church services started), and whoever could go, would go. Katie and the boys went with, and Mark was able to sneak away from his work day for the hour.

It was so great to see Mom's happy face. She hadn't seen Aaron for quite awhile, and had never yet met Daniel! Of course there was a piece of chocolate cake for her, and a couple of cozy, new sweatshirts with sparkles on them.

Aaron was charming, and found plenty of stuffed animals to hold, and a kaleidoscope to look through. Daniel had his usual grin on, and hung out, moving from lap to lap.

Baby Daniel loves watching his big brother!

We took lots of pictures, which is getting more and more important as time passes. And, I think the amount of time that we were there was just about right. And, though Mom seemed to forget at times that it even was her birthday, I hope there will be a time that she remembers we were there, and that will feel good. 💜

Missing Minnie Mouse

Early mornings have been chilly lately, so today we fired up the fireplace. I couldn't help but notice that Minnie wasn't there to stretch out in front of it. Punk liked to lay in front of it, too, but Minnie always seemed to think that all she had to do was look at it, and it would magically turn on!

Minnie passed away this past August. Poor little girl was 18, and although she was becoming more and more frail in the last year, she seemed to really go down hill fast over just a couple of weeks. It was so sad to watch her not eat, and to have trouble walking, so we made the decision to take her in to the vet.

She was a favorite, for sure, and it was good that all the kids were able to see her to say their last goodbye. We had adopted Minnie from the orphanage (Animal Humane Society) in the summer of 2005, and she wanted to go home with us so badly. She really put on the charm! She especially loved men and would choose their laps to sit on first. She was a beautiful calico cat.

The house became even more quiet after Minnie was gone. Twist noticed it, too, and has become more verbal and affectionate. I'm thinking that maybe it's his turn to be Top Cat now, and have the opportunity to shine and get all the attention. I'm grateful we still have him in the house.

Rest in peace, little Minnie Mouse. 💜

September Book Club

There she is!

Cathy got these for us while on vacation in Duluth

Cheers!

Two Tone Tommy

September Book Club brought us to Cathy's place. Dear Mrs. Bird was a hit, and all of us actually finished reading the book before our meeting. We ate breakfast burritos and hash browns, fresh fruit, Raisin Bran muffins, scones, and chocolate chip cookies. Plus, black cherry margaritas. 💥💥 Then we sat and talked for hours because that's what we do! We'll meet again the beginning of December, and  our next book will be The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson.
