The Shower

We had Katie's Shower here yesterday, hosted by Debbie!

We had close to a dozen friends and relatives show up, although one friend and her two daughters had to leave suddenly when her husband at home had a medical condition pop up! Luckily things ended up being okay in the end, but life sure can be scary sometimes.

And as sometimes happens at showers, we played a few games but they were not too scary. Thank you, Debbie.

We had a mimosa bar with champagne and three kinds of juices ... orange, of course, but also mixed berry and pineapple coconut. I had to try all three.

It was the perfect afternoon to get into the wedding mode. And it was fun to shower Katie with love.

A Little Crazy, But Getting There

What a time to come down with a wicked head cold!

I suppose that it's best to get sick now instead of right before the wedding, right? But, I do need to be better by this weekend because of Katie's shower. And the wine tasting we planned might not have been the most accurate because I couldn't taste or smell!

I've been chipping away at clearing extra stuff out of the main floor of the house, the deep cleaning will happen later. I decided I probably won't be attempting to shampoo the living room carpet because it will be filled with people and chairs and who will even notice?

Shower this weekend, then Easter, then Wedding.

I told myself that at this point, the main focus of anything should be to enjoy the people and be as excellent a host as possible. No need for perfection over things that people won't even care about or remember!

The North Shore

We had a little get away this past weekend when we drove up to the North Shore for a wedding.

First of all, I have to say that it's really good to get away for a night once in awhile. Sort of like a date night, when you realize that you really do like each other a lot. And being somewhere new together can be energizing.

Right away, I noticed all the Birch trees. They were so beautiful! And there was so much color contrast everywhere else with the turquoise color of Lake Superior, the rocks, the snow, the trees. It was amazing. And while Minnesota can be interesting to see in general, I think the North Shore might be one of the best places to go to if you can.

The morning after the wedding, we drove to Split Rock Lighthouse. The center and the lighthouse were open to see, but unfortunately the light keepers cabins were not. Maybe we can go back in the warmer months to walk through them when they are open to the public. I'm a little afraid of heights, but I managed to find the courage to climb up the winding staircase to the top.

We traveled light, but I decided to bring my retro luggage cosmetic case with me this trip. I love that thing! It was tucked up on a shelf in the basement storage room, and at the last minute I decided to pull it down. It's a little thing, to like something like that, but it made me think about the possibility of more travel in my future, and that is a good thing.

Baku

We found a little Azerbaijan restaurant not too far away, and we're thinking it might be a cool place to host the groom's dinner. We've eaten there several times before, and the food has always been really excellent. Since Avi and his mom are originally from the area, maybe it would be a comforting gesture to spend time there while we all get to know each other better. And fun!

Last night we shared some Traditional Borscht, Beets Salad, Chebureki, Lamb Kabob with rice/veggies/salad, and their dessert called dessert. Plus a bottle of Georgian wine.
