Katie and Avi Visit

Katie and Avi flew home for a visit last weekend and I have to say, that it's one of the best things that could ever happen. 💕

It was a more laid back visit as Avi was fighting off a virus, and I think it just felt good to kick back and relax. We still did quite a few things ...  mostly a lot of eating, but also a little shopping, and some adventures in Minneapolis.

They arrived Thursday morning, so it felt like we had almost a full day. We talked and got all caught up, then drove to Cub Foods to pick up fried chicken and waffles with maple syrup for dinner. KFC has been advertising their chicken and waffles lately, but Cub Foods also has some pretty tasty chicken, and it's so convenient!

Friday we took a walk around Lake Harriet. The sun was out, and bright, despite a wicked wind that was blowing. But we were troopers and stuck it out even though that cold wind made our ears ache. In the evening, Bruce and Avi went to a Minnesota Twins game. Katie and I decided to pick up some Mandarin Yang, and watch Gilmore Girls on Netflix. I've never actually seen Gilmore Girls and come to think of it, there are probably a lot of other TV shows I haven't seen, mostly because I just don't watch much TV. I decided that I liked it, or was it because I was watching with Katie?

We drove into the city Saturday morning, in search of a farmer's market. There was supposed to be one, but no such luck. Instead we walked through a bookstore that had some cool titles that we decided you most likely wouldn't see at a Barnes and Noble. We browsed awhile and bought a couple of books, my selection being a cookbook of, of course, simple, inexpensive foods. I thought the photos of the food in this book were really pretty, too.

As we walked out, Bruce noticed that across the street was a store that sold stained glass and tools to use when working with glass. It actually was a store he was thinking of going to already, so that worked out well. In we went.

Off to the Midtown Global Market next ... we found mostly ethnic food booths there plus live jazz music. Katie and I got some Indian food which we decided wasn't the best Indian food that we've ever had, and then Katie bought yummy lemon poppyseed truffles for us to eat later. We stayed home in the evening and watched the old videos that Bruce had converted to his computer.

Sunday morning we went to see Grandma Joyce, and took her out to eat at Snuffy's for lunch. Katie and Avi had brought these cute, bunny planters with them to give to both Mom and me, and then gave Grandma Joyce hers. I think Grandma Joyce felt pretty loved that day. 💕

Avi went to Cigar Jones, and Katie and I headed to the mall to see if Creative Kidstuff was still open. They're going out of business, but luckily they were still open and with everything 40% off! A lot of their things had already sold, and it had an empty feel to it, so sad. But Katie found these little animal families that she's always wanted, and bought some. We walked through Williams and Sonoma next, then stopped at Byerly's before heading home. We found Maggie and Mary's Wild Rice Soup mix there, which we had for supper. With lefse, cinnamon and sugar, and butter, yum.

Their flight home on Monday wasn't until later in the afternoon, so we went to breakfast at People's Organic, and stopped at Lakewind's to browse.

I think that when a person is feeling homesick, it feels good to go to places that hold memories of home.

And the best part of running around to all these places, was that we could run around with them. The time went by so quickly! However ... they are planning to be home for the 4th of July, and that's only a couple of months away.
