Labor Day Barbecue At Nick's

Nick invited the family over on Labor Day for a barbecue. This was the first time he's hosted a gathering, and it turned out to be a lot of fun. We missed Brianna, who couldn't attend because of work, but everyone else was able to make it, even Avi's mom, Khana.

As I've mentioned before, Nick lives in a condo of a high-rise building right downtown, and the complex has a beautiful park and pool area contained in it, plus a number of gas grills and tables and chairs for sitting. And since it was a holiday, parking on the metered streets were free, and we found spots right in front of his building.

Nick had made ribs in his instant pot, and brought them down to finish on the grill with sauce, and baked beans, and chips and hard cider. I brought a rotisserie chicken and some already cooked brats to warm on the grill, too, plus salads. Mark brought chips and dips and cookies, Katie and Avi brought watermelon, and Jake brought cantaloupe and corn on the cob to grill. Jake ended up being grill master again. As I watched him, I saw how patient he was in turning the Beyond sausages (Katie brought some). I've had difficulty with veggie sausages or wieners sticking to the grill, and he said he's had luck in just letting them cook until the bottoms have cooked a bit, and not attempting to turn them until they have.

After we ate, we took the elevator up to the roof on the 29th floor (Nick lives on the 16th), and looked down on the view of the city. Little boy just ran and ran ...
