More Book Club Beauties

We missed the month of April because of Kat's sister passing away, and so had our get together here on the first Sunday in May. It was rainy and misty outside, but it was warm inside by the fire, and we ended up hanging out for five hours. Note my new book club slippers, gifted to me by Gwen!  ðŸ’•

I thought about Mom when I decided to make cinnamon applesauce jello. Mom and a couple of friends would take turns meeting at each other's homes for lunch, and one lunch that was a favorite at Mom's was taco salad, crescent rolls, and cherry cinnamon applesauce jello. Originally I thought I might just serve some kind of fresh fruit, but fruit is expensive these days (as everything else seems to be, for that matter), and fruits are not always the best tasting anyway at this time of year. So, applesauce jello it was. I also couldn't find cherry jello (another thing that seems to happen more frequently these days, supplies at the stores can be hit or miss), so I made it with raspberry jello and it was still good. We talked about the recipe as we ate, and it was discovered that Cathy and Kat had never received a copy of my Simple Supper Cookbook, which of course has the jello recipe in it. I gave them each one, but if people are interested in purchasing a copy, you can find it at my Little Bohemian Heart Etsy Shop, link to the right.

Let's see. Mona brought bruschetta and  cinnamon bread. Cathy brought salami pickle roll ups and cookies. Kat brought chicken cheese empanadas, and cookies. I made bbq little smokies and meatballs, raspberry cinnamon applesauce jello, and hot spiced cranberry cider. Oh, and we made peachy orange mimosas. It's probably kind of obvious that food is very important at these gatherings... 😂

And though we didn't read a book last month, we chose one for our next meeting, Call The Midwife: A True Story Of The East End In The 1950's by Jennifer Worth. It's fun when we find a book we're all excited about!

Our next meeting will be hosted by Cathy, and she's thinking egg dish ...
