State Fair 2019

We made it to the State Fair TWICE this year, practically unheard of for us!

I felt so organized when I purchased a couple of early discount tickets at Cub, and we planned to go sooner than later, hoping to take advantage of things maybe being cleaner, and venders maybe being more friendly and not so worn out from days of dealing with huge crowds. But then Jake and Nick came home for a visit and we ended up postponing until a few days into it, and you know what? It was still clean, and venders were still friendly. 😎

The reason we went twice, was that Bruce was invited to be interviewed during a live broadcast of Minnesota Home Brew, a radio station based in Thief River Falls that has been playing songs from his recent CD. They played an entire hour of his music, which was pretty cool.

We walked through the barns, the 4H building, the Creative Arts Building (and located Terry's yarn), and the Fine Arts building. We found Dave Cooper's green bench and sat on it, saw a couple of parades, and stopped to listen to bands playing. We even sat in the studio audience of one of Channel 5's newscast, and saw ourselves on TV! And, we watched a calf being born in the Miracle of Life building.

Of course we sampled the food ... Thanksgiving in a Bowl from the Salem Dining Hall, fried green tomatoes, a Scotch Egg, a steak hoagie sandwich, a gyro, corn on the cob, fresh lemonade, a strawberry malt from the Dairy Building, and miniature donuts. Am I forgetting anything? It's easy to sample lots of different things when you split them, which we do.

We didn't spend much time looking at the shops. I'd rather walk through the exhibits and barns, and search for treasures like an old friend's memorial bench and Terry's award winning yarn. I like to look at all the jellies and breads, too ... maybe I'll get inspired and make something like pepper jelly this year, you never know.

I love going to the State Fair.
