Celebration of Life Service at Chapel View

Today we went to the Celebration of Life Service at Chapel View for Dad and the others who had passed away recently there. It was wet and blah outside, but inside Chapel View it was warm and bright.

I know that I was feeling a little anxious on the way over, as was Mom. But once we got inside and saw some familiar faces, that feeling went away. Chapel View is good, and it was a big part of our lives these last two years.

Dad never wanted any fuss, but Mom did want a little church service for him, so this was perfect.

Reverend Nancy had gotten to know Dad, and talked about his kind eyes and his signature hat. She also said that she had lost her own mother a year ago this November, and I noticed that she cried during one of the hymns.

It was a sweet, little service. Mom looked pretty in her purple pantsuit, too.

Bruce got up and shared a few memories. People laughed when he told a story about ice fishing, and Dad re-using the same large walleye that he had caught over and over again throughout the next few weeks, trying to fool people into believing that he caught huge walleyes all the time. Dad liked a good joke now and then, but he was also a guy who would give the shirt off his back or the food off his plate if others were in need.

And as Mom kept saying what a nice service it was, I thought again about how lucky we were to find a place like Chapel View.
