Minnesota State Fair 2023

I'm beginning to think that it just might be the norm for us to go to the State Fair at least two times each year!

The bench of an old friend

the green benches in the 4H building

What are these things called?

We met up with Nick and Jake, and then Curt and Teri on the first day. The first day of the Fair is always good... clean, and workers are friendly and seem happy to be there. We took a walk to the Creative Arts building (I texted Terry to see if she'd entered any yarn this year, but she hadn't), the barns, of course, and the 4H building, where we sat on the green benches inside for awhile, with the sound of soothing fans blowing. I had a happy memory of when my mom and dad would go to the fair. They'd go early and stay late, taking their time to stop and rest often. Sitting on the benches in the 4H building was one of their usual resting spots. We also spent time looking at the seed art, the honey bee hives, and saw a demonstration of a golden eagle at the DNR building.

Scotch Egg

I had a soft serve chocolate ice cream cone from the Dairy building, we split a Scottish egg, and then we went to the Agriculture building for a cider freeze. Those cider freezes are delicious! But, we did notice that the price had jumped up from 99 cents to $2.99 a freeze.

Bacon Brothers!

In the evening, we saw the Bacon Brothers perform at the Leinie Lodge. I'd never heard their music before, but I had a huge crush on Kevin Bacon in the 1980's, so I was pretty excited to hear they'd be at the Fair this year. And, if you've never seen the movie She's Having A Baby with Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern, you should! After dark, the fireworks went off, and it was cool to be listening to the music at the same time.

Baby Daniel 💕

Katie and Avi asked if we'd like to go to the Fair with them and the kids. Why, yes, we would! This time we drove, and walked over the Como bridge to enter. We took Aaron to see the animals, and watched him ride on the bumper boats. I also got to go on a ride with just him. 💕 Baby Daniel hung out in the stroller and did really well despite having had several vaccinations earlier in the day.

yummy raspberry wine slushies

We split some fried green tomatoes

Katie and I had raspberry wine slushies, (so good!), a pork chop on a stick (I think the stick in my pork chop was put in upside down, which made it trickier to eat), fried green tomatoes, and corn on the cob. Aaron had a corn dog.

I do like the Fair. 😊
